That list should be split into reasons why a woman should be admitted and the reason for a man to be admitted (reasons why people were admitted more like). It would be even more interesting.

I notice that illegitimacy isn't on the list but working as a nurse in Cherry Knokka in the 1950s my mam knew women there who were institutionalized for just that reason - having nowhere else to go.
