I think youre in a minority here mind marra.

In the history of popular/soul etc. music there have been few, if any, to compare with Aretha in her pomp. Amazing voice.

Remember hearing my first Luther Vandross and also Aretha track when I was younger. Stopped me in my tracks like. Immense. Sad day when Luther went to meet his maker.
To be fair ive never been that keen on Aretha either.

Luther and Marvin, yeah, but I could never get away with Urethra's shoutyness.

There's a bewer called Lisa Fischer who has an amazing voice. She put out an album in the early nineties (So Intense) and a single (How Can I Ease The Pain?) but has pretty much stuck to being a back up singer, originally for Luther and I think that might be her who comes out during 'Gimme Shelter' when the Stones did that concert in Hyde Park last year. Anyway, rather listen to her or Rachelle Ferrell than Urethra.
HAve a watch of Twenty Feet from Stardom

Cracking documentary about Lisa Fischer, Merry Clayton, and several other backing singers.

Christ that was absolutely terrible. Like it's been said, tremendous in her day. That made me cringe though, wish I hadn't seen it.
