Straight 2 horse race for me (unless I've forgotten something blatantly obvious) - between The Matrix (1st one only) & Interstellar. Any other contenders?

Avatar (couldn't stand The Matrix tbh) also the latest Star Trek films were canny. I don't watch that much sci-fi like.

If it was just the last 20 years then I'd defo say the Matrix. It was an awesome concept, original, mint action scenes. Just a shame the other 2 movies were complete shambles.

After that I'd say District 9, Independence Day and the Star Trek reboot.

The Matrix, hands down. Then probably Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness.

Can't remember if Event Horizon is new enough or that would have been in with a shout for 2nd.

To those who've proposed superhero/Marvel/DC bollocks, it's Sci-Fi not Shi-Fi.

event horizon is the best sci-fi film ever, so if we are discounting that:
i quite liked pacific rim, enjoyable, but realistically the matrix is unbeatable.
interstellar was wank.

80's was the golden age for sci-fi.

I'll go for 12 Monkeys though.

Great fillum but shirley too old?

I can think of loads I like from the last 20 years, but all the ones I'd call classics are older.

Honourable mentions at the very least have to go to

Dark City
Cube
Ghost in the Shell
Gattaca
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Serenity
District 9
Star Trek 2009
Pitch Black
Moon
Source Code
Sunshine
Primer
Children of Men
A Scanner Darkly
Inception
Attack the Block
Spirited Away
Solaris (Clooney version)

And while I don't like it, A.I. is being reassessed a lot lately as a misunderstood classic

It's the correct answer. By 10 country parsecs.
