The housing benefit bill would be a fraction of what it is now if Thatcher hadn't flogged off all of the council houses.

Agreed - but she did. To start fixing the problem freeze all HB levels and start reducing them annually by something like 2-5% to prevent a crash and give people time to adjust.

Fuck them. Just turf them onto the street and let them fend for themselves.

Back on point though....

Super Ed wiped the floor again with greasy Dave at PMQs today. The best the PM could do was drag up the Mylene (lack of) Klass crack - which I've just managed to bring meself to watch - he seemed to be quite robust in his responses to her, she seemed to be a bit dense and not capable of grasping any of the points he made. Looks like he's going to be quite an adept PM.

hmmm, the last three years has seen an 86% rise in the number of working people relying on housing benefit, and the cost of of private rented has increased by 37% in the last five years, and wages have risen how much?

which is exactly what i suggested that you thought was hilarious.

Well call me Dave reckons they have gone up 4% over the last year!!

I am not certain how you got from my suggestion on freezing HB maximum levels to hoying people onto the street?

If Ed becomes PM it will be a disaster for the UK economy. He will spook the markets which you cannot do in a global economy.

If you look beyond the politics Cameron is doing a lot of the right things - probably more by accident than design. The benefits system for working age people clearly is not fit for purpose - loads of unemployed yet loads of immigrants able to come and find work. All the fuck on with universal credit looks like a complete waste of time but capping benefit and increasing personal tax allowances is a step in the right direction.
He is also closing down tax avoidance schemes and championing international cooperation on corporation tax.
They are also attempting to build trade links with China, Brazil and a few other developing economies.
Ed's main idea at the minute is to ban energy companies from increasing prices to offset massive rises brought about in part by green measures he championed.

:lol: I really do hope he gets the chance.

Even when energy costs are at record lows?

It's strange that so many posters, @stephen cartwright in particular, bang on about this government turning people against each other whilst constantly sniping and blaming the rich, bankers, people with a nice house etc. We're all in this together but the lower end should have no cuts and only the rich should pay?

Hypocritical berks.
i dont do that at all. hypocritical inbred predujudiced prat

i aplogise to all the prats out there

just to make it clear. i do not begrudge anyone in "nice house, bankers etc etc. however i do have a right to state that this current condem government has gone out of its way to turn sections of the voing public against each other

i personally have lost 40% of my income, through direct government policy. i do hope all those who have a go, realise this.

lets be honest things that honest ordinary people care about this government has done little, bar raising the tax threshold at the very bottom

the rise of foodbanks, the trebling of tuition fees, the increase in vat, the increases in prescription affect ordinary people

this is not an attack onthe rich, nice houses or bankers at all. it is about real fairness which they bang on and on about.

Why does no one ever consider rent controls or investment in affordable housing, even when it's obvious the market isn't working correctly?

The missus, who works in social housing, explained why rent control isn't the solution it seems to me before. Can't actually remember what she said though.

In terms of building, they want to build. But building costs money. They don't have a lot of it.

So, in answer to your question, they do actually consider it. It's just not that straight forward.

The party needed to cut it's ties to pseudo Toryism after the Blair and New Labour fiasco and return to being a genuine socialist party offering a true alternative. Ridiculously even the Lib Dems were to the left of labour before the last General election.

Whoever thought Ed was the right person to do that wants their bumps feeling but unfortunately the new labour years had rid the party of any leftish thinkers who were even remotely electable.

They need to tear everything up and start to differentiate themselves again, maybe even try and persuade somebody like Owen Jones into the fold. The rush for the centre ground from our 3 main political parties has left us completely devoid of choice, they are indistinguishable from one another and this genuine lack of choice is (IMO) the major reason that people are turning away from politics and becoming completely apathetic.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

Why not go the whole hog and get Russell Howard in anarl? Laurie Penny must be available!

Hilarious

Tell ya what as much as I detest that POS Miliband, the pro-Tory press are seriously going after him. I wonder if it's to deflect attention from our paedophile-wick political class and the recent exposure of more child and sexual abuse within Parliament?

Doubt it, seeing as Labour have been implicated in the noncing as well.

No.....he is unelectable.

Its a sad truth that the labour party have taken so long to arrive at this conclusion.

His brother would have walked the election but the TUC dinosaurs thought they knew better

This. If he is in charge in May, the best they can hope to achieve is a minority administration with SNP backing which would be a disaster for the country. If they've got any sense they will bin the twat and replace him with Yvette Cooper in the new year.

By all accounts energy companies are keeping their prices high due to the fact that milliband opened his big mouth and promised a price freeze - so looking some opinion polls and the chance that labour may get in and carry out their promise then the energy companies have no real incentive to lower the prices
Exactly - the f***ing knacker.

So its not just them being greedy bastards, i somehow dont think anybody will believe them going by the 30%+ rise in costs over the last 3 years.
