As this post has been resurrected I thought I would give an update.
We took on a lovely little pup and named her "pip", we fell for her almost immediately and gave her a loving home, the kids adore her and she has settled in well for the first 9 months and then the problems began. In August one morning my daughter came in and woke me to say Pip was in distress, she was all over the place trying to climb the walls, racing round the house and not in a good place. To cut a long story short after sending her to a specialist in Dewsbury, she was sedated for four days, had an MRI scan and spinal tap has been diagnosed with GME Gutted to say the least and its knocked us all for 6, I never knew just how much you become attached. Anyway, as there is known cure for this debilitating disease our dog will have to see out the rest of her days on steroids but on a positive we have seen great improvement so far. The awful thing for me is not knowing the unknown and what exactly is round the next corner, we will fight on for her unless things rapidly decline, something that can happen at anytime apparently My advice to Anyone that doesn't have pet insurance should get it if you can afford it, we have insurance up to £7500 per ailment, at present we have done £4000. Will be worried when the insurance runs out. Sorry for the depressing post people "just gutted"
