As a defender I would think an important attribute to have is being able to defend, Alonso can't do this. He also has zero pace to help at least get back at players

He's a decent player Milner, doesn't really get the credit he deserves. Was by far the best player on the pitch when they came back from 2-0 down to win in Munich this season as well.
