Lots of people seem to think this was a bad thing. But I wonder how much they understood what was going on at the time

1 - He was out of contract at the end of that season
2 - The tribunal fee we would have got would have been around half of what Palace paid us
3 - He was very much out of form at the time

ALS had an article on him that week, that was already written before the transfer went though, and the editor added a comment along the lines of:

"(phew, just heard palace have paid £1.8m for him)"

It was a good deal for us. Didn't we use the money to buy Don Goodman?
