He did a lot of work with youth players before he became caretaker manager, so when he was in charge, a lot of young lads started getting in the first team. Mickey gray etc. We were essentially kept up by Crosby following the sacking of Dennis smith and the sale of Marco. Seem to remember some good home wins against boro, and ipswich, both of whom got promoted.
Because the cup run was brilliant, the board gave him the job permanently in the summer, but we were poor the next season, and he wasn't really management material. Got the sack following a pools panel verdict defeat at tranmere!!
Aye, must be unique in terms of being the only manager to be sacked after a pools panel result. I was at Tranmere that day and the pub landlord only told us the game was off after we'd paid for our drinks.

We played decent football under Crosby but there wasn't much backbone. Maybe the Board felt that the Pools Panel verdict in favour of Tranmere showed how far we'd sunk.

Bloody liar. We were absolute gash in the league, and he spaffed the FA Cup £650,000 on Shawn bloody Cunnington
lovely man, happy times. Cunnington had lovely hair and never bothered anyone, wouldnt harm a fly and liked to let everyone else on the pitch have a turn ahead of himself. Selfless

Didnt he pull a Len Ashurst type stunt and change his team for the final? Ashurst dropped Colin West who had helped dismantle Chelsea in the semi finals, didnt Crosby change our defence around? Anton Rogan, or Garry Owers, cant remember now

He dropped Paul Hardyman, Moved Anton Rogan to Left back and played Garry Bennet alongside Kevin Ball at Centre Half

Great bloke but never actually really wanted the job at that time & the cup run papered over the cracks. Got the best out of the senior players during that cup run and as he had come up from the junior/youths/u21s (whatever they were called at the time) coach to be first team manager quite a few of the squad had played under him since a being a kid, in fact some even lived with him at some point as he use to give board & lodge to the apprentices. So no surprise the younger players (Brian Atkinson,David Rush and the likes) really wanted to play for him.
