Now we've got two wing-backs, could we be suited playing...

Our biggest issue is possession, or lack of. As suggested a 4-2-3-1 should, in theory, suit is. Our problem is within 5 minutes it will become a 4-5-1 just as the 4-3-3 becomes a 4-5-1.

The team I'm involved in play a 4-3-3(try to) when we have the ball, without the ball we encourage a loose 4-5-1. At the minute we struggle keeping the ball meaning we usually play 4-5-1 and until we can keep the ball this will continue.

Obviously there is a lot to it, but I feel a lot of our issues are down to not being able to string 5 passes together. Players have to defend when you ain't got the ball, we rarely have the ball.

We always utilised Borini best by playing counter attacking football, but we have another dimension now with M'Vila able to pick a pass. Anar you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but if only we could get Fletcher/Graham to hold the bloody ball up long enough to get into a decent shape and support them.
I think that's why he bought Ola. He's big and a nuisance and hopefully as the point of our midfield can win flick ons and hold the ball up for the front three to feed off

... a 3-4-1-2'ish formation, with the striker alongside Defoe dropping a bit.

Say something like....
--------------------- Pantilimon
----- Coates ------ Kaboul ------- O'Shea
Yedlin -------------------------------------------- van Aanholt
------- M'vila ------ Rodwell/Catts/Larsson
---------------Toivonen/Lens/Borini
----------------- Lens/Borini --- Defoe

+ Defoe doesn't have to play alone up front.
+ blistering pace on both wings.
+ strong central defence.
- who's going to replace the three centre-backs when one is injured/suspended.
- having three potential liabilities at the centre of defense rather than two.........
- how will we cope defensively on the wings?

Folks on here putting Yedlin straight into the lineup and expecting great things.

He's played 1 PL game. Expectations are way too high

16 in our team. Think we would do ok with that formation.
Man mark on attacks, swamp the counter attacking football.
I'm in!

We've got Defoe, Borini, Lens and Toivonen so we need to play a formation that gets them all in the team. Don't think we'll play three at the back this season at all.

We've also got Coates, Kaboul, Brown and O'Shea ... we need to find a formation that keeps some out of the team.

Maybe hopes rather than expectations? Either way you're right, the lack of experience is a big factor. Thing is though, when you consider the other options, using him straight away and suffering his growing pains looks appealing all things considered. IMO anyway.

Use him as a sub a few times and if he plays relatively well, let him loose.
