Prices for Premier League midfielders are shocking

We don't tend to have any 'in demand' players - they're usually at the end of contract, end of loan or we're paying someone to take them off our hands!

We really need to change the way we buy players like. Stop the free transfers and Championship cheap buys.

Part of the reason I'm happy we are looking around Europe and such, the English market being so overpriced. Southampton will probably do similar in selling Schneiderlein for £25m and end up getting 2-3 players just as good as him for the money get

Didn't we pay about 6 million for Craig Gardner which sums it up.

6 million pounds
We did indeed

Shameful signing that. It was a sign of things to come though, nearly every window since has been as bad.

Brucey should have made more of that fine achievement.

That summer set us back years. Whatever you may think of him, Bruce did an excellent job in his first 2 summers as Sunderland boss. The recruitment of Bent, Cattermole, Zenden, Turner, Mensah, Sess, Mignolet, Welbeck, Gyan improved the squad no end, as did the emergence of Henderson. That summer's business replacing the likes of Bent, Malbranque, Gyan, Welbeck and Henderson with Ji, Wickham, Elmohamedy, Gardner and Vaughan killed our progress stone dead. We are still suffering from the shocking 2011 that Bruce had.

We are. But two of those signings he made (O'Shea and Brown) turned out to be shrewd signings, without them we would have gone down by now.

Fulham (in the Championship) paid £11m for Ross McCormack last season.

Players playing in England are over priced in general.
Doubt they paid anywhere near that amount initially. Probably and 4-5m of it in clauses such as getting promoted, appearances, goals etc etc.

yes, this is true, It could also be argued that the Larsson and Wickham signings have helped us, as was his refusal to sell Colback to Ipswich. Overall though, the quality in the squad dropped through the floor that summer

All which makes Colback, Bardsley etc going for nothing unacceptable
I don't think either are a miss to be honest. I liked Bardsley, but he was limited and no better or worse than Jones/Rev
Colback? meh - decent, tidy player but hardly a match winner and not one that a team is built around.

Dead on, read on SkY that that little shite at Liverpool is gonna get a 4 mill spin off from his agent if he signs for city

What the fuck is his Agent getting !!!!

Yeah what a twat, wanting more money from his short career and wanting to be at a better club than Liverpool to win silverware.

Hate this bandwagon over sterling now.

McCarthy is probably worth quite close to that fee.

Everton signed him for 12 million, and he's continued to improve.
