100's terrorists released early and immune for prosecution while our lads could end up in the dock

Big boys rules eh;)

Absolutely shocking when you consider the on the run stuff, the fact so many murderers are walking the streets due to the good friday shambles, the fact the incident detailed in the report contained two terrorists carrying firearms who the ira confirmed were going to murder someone.

One good thing in that report is that they called it londonderry rather than pandering to the catholics and calling it derry

Harsh as it must be for some it was a price worth paying for peace. Nee way paramilitaries and either side were putting down there guns unless there mates were released from jail

Difficult one, sure the European Court of Human Rights decided the individual soldiers who killed the cell in Gibraltar weren't blameworthy so surely this would be the same if they were merely following orders and intel

It was caving in. Tony blair wanted a 'trophy' to his name and the good Friday agreement was it, he would have given anything to get it passed with his name attached.

Its ok sitting here a few 100 miles away twisting about it. You ask the folk who were in the heart of it if they think it was a price worth paying. Both Unionist and Republicans give it there blessing so its hardly like Blair forced them into it

I know and have worked with people who were in the army and police over there, they saw it at the time and still do as a massive betrayal

Well if it didnt take place them people could well be dead now.

How many soldiers and police were killed 17 year before the GFA was signed and how many in the 17 years after?

Harsh as it may be for a lot of people letting these people out it was a price worth paying for the fragile peace they have at the moment now

Not long before the IRA apologists enter this thread.

I really hope the SAS did wipe out the murdering, spineless, faceless bastards, just like in Gibraltar. Does any right thinking person believe the republican terrorists wouldn't have done the same given the chance?

They wanted a 'war'. They got it. They lost.

Londonderry is a Catholic majority city. If the city ever hold a refendum for it it is the day it will be changed

It doesnt matter if its a catholic majority, its in the united kingdom therefore we name it, so Londonderry it is

Well just as well it wasn't all about them then wasn't it.

I never said it was just about them but those two occupations suffered the greatest loss of life during the troubles.

Catholic civilians suffered the greatest loss of life in the troubles. 1259 to 1039 security forces.that's not counting those considered active paramilitaries. There were 729 protestant civilian deaths. So nearly twice the amount of civilian death to security force. The troubles affected ordinary people mainly , it was no betrayal to stop it.

You obviously feel quite passionate about it all, but it is small minded comments like that which keep the whole sectarian hatred thing bubbling under the surface.

When people stop whinging about religion and stop moaning about who's country it is or isn't, and start to get on with living side by side without prejudice then we will make progress.

Petty squabbles and casual racism (yes it is racism) get people knowhere.
