He, quite clearly, doesn't believe that we need the ability to fight beyond our own shores which (quite logically [I think] suggests ) he wishes to reduce their size quite dramatically when he said:

“Why do have to be able to have planes, transport aircraft, aircraft carriers and everything else to get anywhere in the world? Why?”

He is a "conchie" who appears to believe that a few peace beads and a Home Guard would be enough to deter any potential aggressor and wishes to decrease our international influence until it's on a par with Zimbabwe!
You don't need a full task force based armed forces if you're going places as part of organised lawful UN initiatives. I can see no reason why we would ever go anywhere unilaterally , Falklands excepted . Put the brass into training and equipping versatile personelle for home defence and peacekeeping/humanitarian work. We're not going to fight the French or the prussians .

Do you reckon he thinks it though?
What do you think his overall stance on the strength and size of the armed forces is?
I have no idea. Someone should ask him a straight question.

I might be bold enough to suggests however, that he disagrees with Caneron's statement this very morning that he is going to double spending on drones and increase funding on specials forces.

So he didn't actually say it then. Okay, thanks.

I you are not prepared to see the obvious meaning in his words that's fine by me - Come the next election I think most will!

;)

We would appear to have a fundamental point upon we disagree marra.

Seems we do. Where can you see the UK mounting a unilateral assault ?

You're basically doing what the media do. Take someone's words and say "well, it's obvious he meant that, isn't it?!" Which gets twisted into "he definitely said that!"

But what you have confirmed is that he didn't say that. Thanks again.

If you wish to pursue your current blinkered belief/stance then I think it's pointless debating this any further - the electorate will be the judges of whether he can be entrusted with our nation's defence and I'm pretty sure that they will not think he is.

I'm sure they will.

But he still didn't say it, did he? No? Thanks for the apology.

Context is everything.

So he's one of yours then.
Well then he isnt fit to lead the Labour Party. At best he is a champagne socialist, at worst he is a hypocrite. A bit like Harman, who went to one of the best girls schools in England. Both should be tories. This is why the Labour Party have come in for such stick. Privileged career politicians who have no empathy with the real world.

Not using those exact words, no.

I think. though, that if I was to question your sanity you may think I'm saying that you have a few screws loose, even though I hadn't used those words.

He doesn't tend to answer straight questions
He's a politician, same as the rest of them
