until the owner invests half decent money in to the club we will always be pishing against the wind

you cant sow a silk purse from a sows lug hole its so easy as a fan to blame the manager, dof, players and the like but in the current set up what do people expect
I read /hear oh get tony pullis or david moyes in he will keep us up, well that's all well and good but what happens after that in the long term gus might well do the same this season but if short continues to go down the rout of free transfers and basic penny pinching then it doesn't matter who the manager is, Jose Mourinho would struggle to keep this crop of shite up.
we have been in the premier league for around 8 seasons now and in that time have had keane, bruce, oneill di canio, poyet in and have stood still if not gone backwards tbh if you flirt around relegation for too long then eventually it will catch up with you.
really don't know what people expect managers like poyet, bruce, pullis, pardew, monk, hughes, redknapp, etc etc are on a par with each other come the end of the season there will be about 6 or 7 points between all those teams. gus was a hero last season when he somehow kept us up after a disastrous start to the season when just about all of us had us relegated but his hands are tied when it comes down to the money available to spend
yes you can question some of his signings like any manager on a relative budget but I really hope we stick with him for a couple of seasons at least. are some fans really that daft to think that if we keep changing managers despite the lack of investment that things will change dramatically
we are who we are whether you like it or not which is a bottom half/ struggling premier league team and always will be unless the purse strings are sufficiently released
What an unbelievably short sighted view.

This has got absolutely nothing to do with spending or not spending money this season. What this has to do with successive regimes at SAFc being massively in a comfort zone and having absolutely no credible plan for action or strategy for the club. The managers they appoint are invariably out of their depth, probably because they are cheap and demand fuckall and we all wonder why we end up like this every season in the top flight for virtually the last 50 years.

You need to look wider for the issues at SAFC and it does not begin and end with the transfer market.

We have spent tens of millions and got f***ing nowhere; we have 40k plus crowds and got f***ing nowhere; we have changed boards and got f***ing nowhere and must be the only club owned by a billionaire who has zero idea of what he is f***ing doing.

Massively piss poor.

Money's been spent, thsts not the problem, the problems is bad management, poor planning, no long term plan
This, in spades.

Bruce had built a very good side till forced to offload Bent, Gyan and Henderson to add much needed depth to the side. His net spend was virtually nowt. Compared to Congerton, Di Fanti and O'Neill his signings were superb.

Only really Gardner who cost big money and was poor.

MON spent 30 million on 15 million's worth of talent.

The less said about the DOF signings the better.

Not so much about big money signings being poor just poor signings overall cost the club as these are all on decent contracts & have to be moved on at some point

we are top ten spenders man money is the problem it's who it gets spent on

We fucked up under Bruce signings wise and never recovered.

We have allowed the likes of Gardner, Larsson, Brown, O'Shea, Graham, Altidore drain wages out of the club week in, week out without doing fuck all.

Is our scouting system that bad we have to offer a new 2 year deal to John O'Shea? Is there really not a young signing we can make to bring in at centre half?

We are embarrasing man, We spend money yes but we spend it on shite. It seems like we have no kids coming through either to a) play in the first team or b) sell for profit.

That combination in itself is criminal. Look at Swansea & Southampton, they are prime examples of how to run a football club without massive spending powers.

Isn't part of the problem simply that Wearside is (rightly or wrongly) perceived by top players as as a relatively bleak and remote place to ply their trade? Most other places in England have a more positive 'profile'.

Middlesbrough had the same issue when trying to attract players whilst in the top flight, they had to pay over the odds in fees and wages.

Clubs like Southampton may be 'smaller' than SAFC, but the location will tend to be more appealing to players/managers who are not from the area.

This 100%

Yes, this is spot on. If only Ellis Short would allow us to have a wage bill on a par with say Everton then we'd be a damn site better off....... oh shit, hold on, you mean we did actually spend virtually the same amounts on wages as Everton for a good few years yet still achieved the square root of fuck all and we've ended up having to ship half that shite out these last couple of seasons????
Evertons relative success was mainly down to the fact that they stuck with the manager for nearly 10 years. we just keep sacking them.
