In some ways yes they attracted some quality but that's no use if there are big weaknesses in areas of the squad.

Because whoever identifies areas of weakness has had a mare!? Couldn't get the targets? Issues with potential signings?

Maybe but they knew that 2 of their best defenders would need replacing a long time ago (in football terms).

So even teams that are bigger than SAFC have player recruitment problems.
