No i am not recommending him as our next coach so relax, what i want to know is was he an ok manager?

Was caretaker manager from Dec 91 until May 92. Did below average in the league, we finished way into the bottom half.

In the cup we went on an amazing run and got to The final. Had chances in the 1st half to take the lead too

The following year he was utter rubbish and didn't last long

Similar to Ricky Sbragia, massive initial boost of results including the cup run, and a 6-0 home win I think I remember, but then found out when got the job full time.

Loved the cup run (the Chelsea home match being the highlight) though so will also look back on his reign with fondness.

when he took over in 1991 he was only 37 yet he looked about 57.

happy times and memories. nice geezer and has had a long career in coaching.

He did a lot of work with youth players before he became caretaker manager, so when he was in charge, a lot of young lads started getting in the first team. Mickey gray etc. We were essentially kept up by Crosby following the sacking of Dennis smith and the sale of Marco. Seem to remember some good home wins against boro, and ipswich, both of whom got promoted.
Because the cup run was brilliant, the board gave him the job permanently in the summer, but we were poor the next season, and he wasn't really management material. Got the sack following a pools panel verdict defeat at tranmere!!

6-2 and a don goodman hat trick home to millwall I believe.
Did best millwall few year later 6-0 courtesy of a Craig Russell hat trick mind.

Stemmed off the threat of relegation and got us to a cup final only to fail flatly the following season.

Sounds familiar.

Remember the 6-0 well, they were top at the time so i went into town because I was too nervous about the game. Millwall went into free fall after and either did or nearly got relegated.

Pretty sure they got relegated. Big nick in charge as well iirc.
Wasn't that the season they brought in them two Russians from Spartak? Sergei yuran and another lad?

He was aye.

Too familiar with the players, also much like Sbragia, so when his initial impact wore off we started to slide.

He was supposed to be coaching our pub team in his spare time, then got the Sunderland job and didn't have time anymore.:(

His daughter is Charlotte, the Sunderland lass off Geordie Shore

Struggling as caretaker in spite of cup run and Bob was "bounced" into making him full manager because the press were saying "you can't have a caretaker leading out a team at Wembley". This meant he had to have a chance the following year when everyone knew that we should have had a new manager.
