Jimmy Hill

He's saying that he doesn't sympathise with or care that Jimmy Hill has this horrible illness. Not sure why you picked that particular post to pose that question. And I've not given any abuse to the OP that I can think of (admittedly I could be mistaken).

No he's not.

He said he wasn't shedding any tears which isn't the same. I care about every Sunderland supporter who dies, and always observe the minute's silence, but I don't shed tears or pretend I'm 'holier than thou'. This is my entire stance on this and why I've continued to post on the thread even though I quickly became bored with it.

The OP was ill judged and unnecessary, why would anyone care what the OP feels about this? I've stated my view on Hill on much more relevant threads.

However, he posted 4 words that people have chosen to see in whichever way suits them best. I've noticed how some posters will rush to any thread they believe their views will be irrefutable and morally bombproof. Can you really not agree that some of the hysterical abuse of the OP is a little OTT?

Some hypocrites even see nothing wrong in using terms associated with mental disorders to attempt to vilify the OP ........ imbecile, cretin, moron, etc.
The fact that Hill is suffering from a mental condition seems to elude them.
They've somehow managed to convince themselves that any amount of abuse is justified as long as they cling to the 'moral high ground'.

It's like the Madeline McCann threads where any criticism of the parents is met by 'yes but they lost their child so that's that'.

Except it's not.

Why don't you ask him what he meant rather than everyone else?

I've never said anything about the 'abuse' given to the OP not being over the top. That's the question you should have asked me. And yes, it has been. There seems to be this mentality among some that if they see something they deem offensive, saying anything in reply to that person or poster is fair game. As I see you've said yourself as I read on.

Because people said they knew exactly what he really meant and responded to those 'comments'.

So did you .........

I've asked loads of people including you.

You claimed you knew what he was actually saying so I asked you .......

And I answered. I also agreed that some of the abuse he received has been over the top and pointed out that I have not given him any abuse.

Have you asked the OP what he meant yet?

You guessed as many people did.

No, if he wants to answer I'm sure he will ......

.... I was simply saying that people were deciding he was wishing illness on Hill etc and posting rubbish on that basis.

It's not about winning, just people with opinions discussing a subject related to football.

God bless everyone on the planet but allow us to comment.

Otherwise people who want to deny us that freedom have 'won'.

All i mean is marra is the OP's original post which is about something he probably knows very little about,Alzheimers,is ridiculous and had been rightly condemned on here,i deal with Alzheimers on a daily basis so it touches a nerve with me because i know what Mr Hills family must be going through,i'm sure the OP wouldn't have started the thread if he'd been a bit more knowledgeable about the disease.

He didn't cheat us. The players who stopped trying did, maybe. Except Tom Ritchie who apparently didn't get the message immediately. But of course it wasn't even normal in those days for these final games to even kick off on the same day, never mind the same time. And it was in our own hands too that night.

The whole thing is completely overblown, leading to some of the hideous views on threads like this one. Cue outrage.
I do think he cheat and don't think that can really be denied however I totally agree with rest of your point. We had our destiny in our own hands and like you say the final games of seasons weren't necessarily always played on same day. Didn't forest find out they'd won league when on holiday with Liverpool playing couple of days later?
It all ties in though with the persecution complex that for some reason a lot of our fans seem to adopt.

This putting things in perspective is important I think for those who were not around or who's memory has been distorted. Who can forget the game against west ham when we had to win to get promotion? This was the only game left in the season 48 hours after west ham had won the fa cup and they rolled over to let their old mate pop Robson get promoted and extend the party. We stood more chance of beating ourselves than west ham breaking a sweat. I recall Mick Buckley tackling their lot to hard and being worried it might wind them up.

Aye mate, I reckon he knows nowt about nowt.

Quite, I think we only needed to draw that actually, and we were still nervous given all the screw ups of the 70s. Apart from the Pop connection, Ken Knighton and their forward Stuart Pearson were old mates from hull and I do remember reading that ken had been assured they had all been on the piss since Saturday and wouldn't be trying too hard. Maybe the league insisted on the timing two days after the final to repay us for 77.

Anyway it was good revenge for 63 too, because Chelsea got edged out as a result and spent the next four seasons in the second division.

Coventry/Hill unnecessarily delayed the start of the game, announced the Sunderland result during the match and the team stopped playing.
Then Hill sat on the disciplinary panel to judge Coventry and, no doubt, sat there laughing out of his arse.

Comparing that to catching a cup winning team, who'd been out on the piss for two days, on a long trip to the NE is ludicrous tbh.
