Nah, I'm not military, I'm moving to near Munich. Bit of a trek to Hannover but for Sunderland it will be worth a weekend I reckon.
Very difficult from the North East. Could have been somewhere in the Rhine/Ruhr and it would have been ideal.

Why not fly to Dusseldorf/Koln then train to Hannover?

Return via Amsterdam there and Charles de Gaule back is £193 at the moment - having failed to get to Toronto would be rude not to go to this one.
Dusseldorf then the train could be an option...
