Jermaine Defoe - Best Signing In Recent Memory

Yeah but they played through balls to attack our defence through our midfield. In the past 3 years we've had dog shit midfielders so we've played 5 to just try and fill holes and smother the opposition with mediocre and hard work

It's definitely been the right decision, we've stayed up. Teams like Barcelona are good enough to be able to play midfielders like Mascherano in defence, but we're the opposite. If we'd played 442 in every game of any of the previous 3 seasons we'd have got relegated. Even with a goalscorer like Defoe in the team.
Everton on their day will torture a lot of teams - hammered Villa 4-0 last week

We'd have still got beat, but a 451 would have not seen us lose 6-2. That's why we've played that formation for 3 years and played Borini and Defoe out of position, wide in midfield

We would never play that defence
That was a one off - Brown come in & was way off the pace
Good going forward & caused a lot of problems - defence was all over the place
Obviously Sam has got a grip of this

you say this as if all of his teams previously have been full of quality players? He's spent most of his career playing for average teams who've had no issues. He's here and has scored 11 times. Not bad for someone we just can't accommodate.
Totally agree with you that he's played for average teams, but if 10th and 11th place is average in this league, then we've been a lot worse than average for the past 4 years. Our players are poor compared to the opposition most weeks and are set out to grind points out through not letting the opposition score. Before this season our defence was our biggest asset - defence kept us up last during the past few years; it certainly wasn't Wickham, Altidore and Fletcher etc who couldn't score for toffee

Actually it was
You attend games ?

That's a bold statement made on the back of a sole away victory where we needed a huge mistake to give us an open goal in a game in which we had 33 % possession

Hope you're right but I think even Sam realises that we'll lose more than we don't. I doubt he'd admit to being happy with the squad

Yeah home and away

If your referring to wickham's 5 goals . .... They were scored in a 38 game season. No team in reality is relegated or survive on the back of a win or two in May. After 38 games you finish where you deserve. 5 goals in a 38 game season is a rubbish return for a forward. He got 5 goals in a season that he went out on loan twice to championship clubs and in which he was picked in desperation rather than form. He only got back in because Altidore was playing ridiculously badly.

5 different managers had Wickham at Sunderland. None of them chose to pick him as a centre forward for a prolonged period of time

Games 576 - goals 238
SAFC games 31 - goals 11
Pretty fuckin impressive
This guy is a goal machine - we are lucky enough to have him in our ranks
Play him week in week out & he will score goals
Stats don't lie
Personally, think 11 goals in 31 SAFC games is even more impressive stat,
than 227/545 at clubs that were doing much better around him.

His goals kept us up - fact

no more so in reality than a few Mannone clean sheets or MOTM displays by brown or JOS earlier on in the season.

You collect your points over 38 games, not the last month of the season
