Now confirmed missing. As far as I could tell from their website they only had one sub capable of reaching this depth.
The company operating the submersible which has gone missing says it is “exploring and mobilising all options” to bring the crew back safely.
“Our entire focus is on the crewmembers in the submersible and their families,” says OceanGate in a statement.
It says it has received “extensive assistance” from “several government agencies and deep sea companies” in its efforts to re-establish contact with the submersible.
“We are working toward the safe return of the crewmembers."

Says they're capable of diving 4,000m below the surface, and the wreckage of the Titanic is around 3,800m below the surface.
The word 'capable' is worrying - since it's not a guarantee. If the vessel isn't working to full efficiency and has been deployed, then it's a huge risk.
If it has collapsed whilst being that far underwater, the people onboard are obviously completely fucked.
Hopefully those on board are found safe, but it's very unlikely.

Not sure how they are going to mount a rescue mission when their other subs are only good for 500m depth.

Looks like eight massively dull and unpleasant days bobbing far out into the Atlantic and back, with a short interruption of one of the most terrifyingly dangerous and uncomfortable things it would be possible to do.You get 8 days for your money though
