Gus Staying....

About a zillion-page thread earlier based on a couple of tweets in which just about everyone was calling Poyet all sorts for refusing to commit, when all the while in the very same press conference he had said "I'm not going to quit. Simple. That I can promise you".

This place, man

I took it to mean the youngsters got all the same facilities and set-up as the first team but haven't really earned it, the difference should be there to make them more hungry to succeed. When we recently released some of the youngsters there was a few rumours kicking about it was because their attitude wasn't right, could fit in with this?
I agree and it's bloody obvious what he means but our resident knicker wetters want to twist everything he says

Maybe he thinks it's time to overhaul the academy and more importantly, the staff in it? Not a popular concept on here granted, but there are common denominators in there that have see off numerous managers. Just a thought...

it should be though! 2 players in 10 plus years to make into first team regulars...along with some shocking decisions to come out of the academy

Well lets be honest, we all know something is seriously wrong with this club, it has moved from one disaster to another for decades. We constantly under achieve and despite playing staff coming and going, management coming and going and owners coming and going the club continues to be mired in mediocrity.

So back him, give him autonomy, let him shape the club in the way he wants. At the end of the day what on earth do we have to lose? Whats another 12 months of potential shite when you add it in to the last few decades of misery and shite? Poyet gave us a cup final this season and at times made that shower of shite that calls itself a first team squad look like a decent football team. He also did the double over the mags, including the most comprehensive win at the Wonga Dome that you any of us are ever likely to see in a long time. So we get relegated, ffs after the start we had it would have been a miracle not to be relegated. Im sure after 1 point in the opening 8 games if you had said look guys you will go down but will get to Wembley and take the piss out of the mags in the derbies most people would have ripped their hands off. :?:

Totally agree, perhaps the reason the likes of Wickham etc thinks he has made it and has apparently got a Billy Big Bollox attitude is because the acadamy players are treated like they have already made it....Nothing to strive for despite having achieved the sum total of fuck all.

What does he mean by this though?

"The change when you become a first-teamer is very small. I'd like to make it a little bit bigger. That doesn't say you're going to give the young players rubbish but it should be different. At the moment I'm the head coach, not the manager so it's not my responsibility."

The article clarifies a lot but left us with this riddle.

Are the U21s pampered to much? Not enough respect for the senior team. Do the U21 get all the hot water before the boiler empties. Do the U 21 s have the best car parking spaces.

Maybe Gus keeps forgetting to book the indoor pitch?

Why have you asked that question? The answer is directly above
Here:
He seems more concerned with embracing wider autonomy and, possibly, an alternative job title. "What's different here between playing for the first team and the under-21s?," he said. "Hardly anything. The dressing room's the same, as is the bus, the kit, the pitch, the footballs and the swimming pool.

Anyway I think Gus is spot on.

i see a lot of people saying give the job to ball....but when you look at it his job is to help oversee young players make the transition into the first team 2 players in 10 plus years is a massive failure (will be one of the lowest rates in england) yet people are happy for him to be first team manager....crazy

Crucial to back him IMO. He's seemingly identified the areas that need to be worked on, he's getting rid of the dross that has left us in this situation and has a defined plan for the future.

Sack him and we end up further back than square 1.

i really dont see how people cant see this

He wants to have control over the academy including the staff. They are the common denominator. I think he will leave or Ball et al will

Controversial as it may be but I wouldn't have a problem with a whole new setup in the academy. It's almost embarrassing the number of players that have passed through the doors there and never made it to the first team.

Something needs to change there.

People were happy for him to play for the first team when he was complete garbage and kept the far superior Rae out of the team so wanting him as manager isn't a surprise.

He can't have control though when there is a director of football. Poyet will now answer to him I assume?
