Food banks

How can the Uk be in a position to need to hand out nearly a million food parcels in the last year? Something not right there...
Either the poorest are to poor to buy food or have their priorities wrong when it comes to budget.

Thinking about it I have a credit card, catalogue and mobile phone bill that need to be paid every month, if I lost my job that could prove difficult even though they aren't a burden now.

I'm not buying all this. This charity is a business. And benefits supply enough money for food. Of course people will take fee food if it's there

It's not just people on benefits who have to go to food banks. Lots of working families do as well.

Why would they have to do that?

some people get their benefits fairly / unfairly sanctioned at times, they then have NO money to live on until it gets sorted out - and that can take weeks, hence the need for food parcels to enable them to eat !

Aye, well in those cases, I can see why, but surely that's minimal and very short term. All this "working people going to food banks" is bollocks like, must be, unless they're just idiots or simply want some free food.

I am sure some fall into this cateogory but there will also be plenty who rightfully need the help. No doubt everyone who uses them will soon be demonised as scroungers like everyone who is on benefits is cheating the system.
My point is people aren't giving a fuck what they are called and taking free food. Cos it's free food

Because they are deemed under the poverty line.

How? I don't get it. I could see a scenario where, if interest rates were stupidly high, people might no longer have enough cash to buy enough food, but rates are low.

What sort of circumstances makes working people rely on food banks?

I think you have to be referred by someone official like a social worker. I don't think they just dish out free food willy nilly to people.

That's what I thought, so why would a working couple/person be referred?

"Care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, CAB and police identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. Foodbanks partner with a wide range of care professionals who are best placed to assess need and make sure that it is genuine."

Yes, the charity is a businesss, most likely a tory owned one.
Yes, many people will take the piss and take advantage.
Worse, the piss takers will be there, whilst the genuine have not even heard that the food bank exists, whilst they starve to death (it happens)
It's scum profiting from scum policies, with scum abusing the scums profitable help.
A few needy people will benefit, but most will not be the needy.
