Wrestling - Part 3

RIP HotRod reaching that point where every one of my childhood wrestling era is no longer with us

Except hogan... That swine will live forever it seems

Thanks for the memories piper

To say I am shocked is an understatement of the very extreme. Superlatives for the word don't sum up how shocked I feel. You expect someone of perhaps 20 years his senior to pass away but not someone of his age. But sadly you expect it seems someone of his stature to pass away because wrestlers are like actors in one regard - fame. Anyone who is currently or has ever been recognized world wide for who they are and what they have done in the ring by people who are wrestling fans are cult icons. They all are right up there with the greats of Hollywood. Every one of them. And every one of the legends are perceived in the same way as the greats of the 50's and 60's like Clark Gable and Jimmy Cagney.

I have been watching a lot of Piper lately ironically and he has featured prominently in my time watching wrestling. I have seen the most recent repeat of Celebrity Wife Swap USA where he swapped lives with Ric Flair. I just saw last night the Louis Theroux documentary on wrestling where Louis talked to Roddy backstage at WCW Monday Nitro. One of the most recent films I have seen is Wrestlers v Zombies where he takes a leading part among the wrestlers. And one the first WWF video I ever bought was the 1991 European Rampage Tour at the Albert Hall where he competed in the 20-man Battle Royal for the samovar trophy won by another late great superstar - The British Bulldog. One of my favourite Survivor Series matches was 1990 and my favourite Royal Rumble was 1991 - both of which was commented on by Roddy. See how much he influenced one person? Now imagine thousands being influenced in similar ways. That his how big a star Roddy was and is.

Condolences to his wife and kids who appeared with him on CWS and all the people who worked really closely with him as allies like Virgil and as enemies like Ric and Ted DiBiase who have lost a good friend.

RIP Rowdy Roddy Piper.

Who's hogan ?

Serious note rip not many can say they headlines wrestle mania 1. One of four.

Can't say that I'm a fan of his as when I got into wrestling he wasn't active, at least not in WWF at the time anyway so I've never sat and watched him bar for appearances on Raw etc. However he's a legend in this business and it's still gutting to see him and Dusty go in such a short space of time.

One thing that's annoyed me in this is that some people on the internet have seen fit to try and put some form of guilt on Steve Austin. I know they've had a falling out but to try and blame the bloke for what's just happened is just disgusting.
