Cash is King

Apart from the corrrupution, Sharia law, Islamic oppression, and rape, I'm sure it's lovely.

If you're happy for Britain to be like Pakistan and Bahrain, then it's a pointless discussion.

Yep you were anonymous untill you handed over you card

What card? They scanned my gift voucher I bought via PayPal.
Of course there'll be an audit trail, but you're talking about integrating 1000's of systems. Who's going to pay for it & at what benefit (which I've now asked about 4 times but you refuse to answer)

Current government systems are shite & departments dont talk to each other) bank systems can go down for a week or so when they do an update / integration (see TSB). You really expect something this sophisticated to work?

Where have I said that? I'd hate for any country to be like the UK, otherwise it would be pointless visiting it.

It was pretty obvious as soon as you ramped up on the thread that you'd somehow manage to conflate UK government alcohol controls with predominantly Muslim countries, the vast majority where it isn't banned at all. Norway has some of the strictest alcohol laws in the world. Parts of Canada and India too.

Funny that you can immediately tell what the cash is king types opinions will be on other issues - eg. Brexit, favoured political party, the channel crossing boats, trans rights, wokeism etc

Gammon rage
Not really
Cash is king types covered the whole of society a short while ago . We didn't put it in our top 10 inventions
We weren't fans
It just was how things were done .
Yes it's changing but it's not without it's flaws and despite what a 27 year old call centre worker may think because their whole life is cashless, cash is still massive in everyday business etc I banked nearly 2 million last year in physical notes
Loads of cheques too .

JPM Chase launching adtech capability where 3rd party advertising can be targeted to customers based on their spending habits.

Will probably be a very lucrative way for them to monetise their customer data, and I expect other banks to follow suit.

Not judging whether this is a good or bad thing by the way, just interesting as this was not something banks would do in the past.

Similar to my other question (which you missed), why would we not just vote out an oppressive government like Pakistan or Bahrain?

Advertising has always been targeted to a certain degree. It'd be pretty pointless if it wasn't.

Online advertising has been doing this before based on your search history. Supermarkets with loyalty card data. Personally, I'd prefer to see adverts for things I might buy and not for products which I have zero interest in.

For sure, it's bread and butter, especially for online. Parents have discovered their kids are pregnant this way. But banks haven't previously used their customer data on spending habits to allow 3rd parties to target their customers. This can unlock insight they can't currently get at, but I would expect quite a lot of backlash from it.

i'm not one who's reason for preferring cash id down to tin foil on my napper. i just think it's better to have and use proper money. apart from this scotch fiver i got earlier in the week. it'll do for the tip when we go out for sunday dinner.

I guess it'll be to pay for the cashback they offer. At least you're getting paid for it.

A bit of a sneaky one this. With new legislation coming in saying that all “service charge” and tips must be handed over to staff, this mob are going to have an initially optional 15% brand charge which goes to the company. They’re saying you can still tip with cash and they’ve put the wages up above legal minimum requirements.

Most people are just going to tap their cards expecting that at least some of the 15% is going to go as tips.

Back in the day, in the RN, young and daft.

Lloyds gave us all cheque books, and ÂŁ50 cheque guarantee cards.

Regardless of what money was in my account, if I had 10 cheques left, I had £500 🤣🤣🤣

Also, the cashpoints took about 5 minutes to link up, so you could go to your limit on one, leg it up the road to another one and take more out, even if you had nowt in your account.

Happy days 🤣🤣🤣

Cash not welcome at One Stop earlier, well not ÂŁ20 notes anyway. Float lorry hadn't turned up so wouldn't take 'em!
Poundland’s card machines weren’t working today, or at least they said they weren’t and I couldn’t be chewed to try them. Luckily I had some counterfeit tenners on me so didn’t have to go through the embarrassment of putting the foil trays and wildflower seeds back and trudge out disconsolately to find an alternative source.

Well done on the 2 million
