Cash is King

I guess it'll be to pay for the cashback they offer. At least you're getting paid for it.
They are actually getting paid twice for it; once for the marketing itself and then again for the interchange costs on the card spend. That's how they can fund their own cashback, rewards and customer acquisition. Good move if it comes off.

I was just going to post that. China is clearly a different level again but it makes good points about why cash is important, especially for people in vulnerable situations or who struggle to manage their money or come to terms with technology. It's also reasonable that we as individuals can spend our money without a bank or app harvesting the information. How that information is used now is one thing, how it is used when there is no option in the future is another matter.
