Major Annoyances...



I wasn't really being obtuse, I can't define one, so I can see that others may think someone with a north east accent might be one.

The question was to the OP as he is the annoyed one.

For most of the country it probably is fair enough. I think the distinction only really became an issue under the John Hall ‘Geordie Nayshun’ ownership of NUFC where it put a lot of Sunderland people off the term.

I think a historically accurate definition is anyone from the areas of the Durham and Northumberland coalfields.
 
I am a Geordie as I was born in Newcastle. The term is based on your birthplace in the same way that a Cockney should be born within the sound of the Bow Bells. Regrettably, followers of them up the road seem to have adopted the label and claim some weird kind of copyright on the name. Undeniable proof that they are a bunch of wrang 'uns.
