1984 T-800 sent to knack Sarah - failed, destroyed. Skynet survives. Tries again...

1995 T-1000 sent to knack John - failed, destroyed. Skynet, now apparently survives, tries again...

1973 Another T-1000 sent to knack Sarah - failed. Sarah at this points goes off the grid under the protection of a T-800. The only way for the T-1000 to now effectively target her is to target Reese in 1984. The T-800 knows Reese is needed to "mate" with Sarah, else John will never be born.

But here's the problem; Dyson was Danny Dyson, Miles Dyson's son from T2. Both his father and mother have had Skynet spelled out in graphic terms to them and Christa Dyson survived. Would she really not tell him what she had learned about the future, and how his father died trying to stop it ? It didn't make any sense that he built it to start with.
In the alternate post-1973 attempt on Sarah timeline, none of that happened.

It had some really good SFX and action sequences but the trouble is that the whole idea has been milked dry. They can make money from it though so they keep churning it out.

Miles Dyson didn't die as in this version Terminator 2 didn't happen and there is no such thing as Skynet, the goal posts have changed and they are building a new system of control - Genisys.

Aye so who sent the T-1000 back to 1984 this time if Skynets last throw of the dice is to send a T-800 that sarah immediately knacks...........

Exactly, there's no need to send anybody back as they now have John in the future. Basically, they should have been sending people back to protect Sarah and Reese, ensure they shag, then kill them both.

The time travel aspect is more akin to Bill and Ted!

I think it's assumed that it's the same T-1000 that was sent back to 1973.

And the 1984 attempt is not Skynet's "last throw" as John thinks.

What is a bit of a quandary is what would have become of the units sent back to 1995 as seen in T2. Did they just show up to find that nee fucker was there?

Perhaps they did. Unlike Reese and the T2 T-800, The Genisys T-800 was sent back anonymously, i.e. it's memory of who or what sent it was erased. All it had was it's mission and a seemingly stronger knowledge of the future.

So has it been on the piss and at the match for a decade then..............

God knas. "Pops" got a job working construction at Skynet after Sarah and Reese buggered off to the future so it's possible.

Another concern is that the birth of John would now occur at a much later date. Sarah keeps trying to change the future, but instead it's only ever delayed. There's a sense of inevitability of war and technology becoming too advanced.

Its been in more time zones than Stubber...........

> SPOILERS<

It seems to be simply an attempt to cash in on some of the ideas from previous movies, so none of it really makes any sense.
1) They are working from the idea in T1.
2) Presumably they are saying that the T1000 from T2 was sent back to 1984 instead as a sort of "back up" to the CSM-101
3) The T-whatever the hell it is turns John Connor into a sort of living version of Skynet in case anything goes wrong.

Some more questions
4) When Tech Com destroy the Skynet central core why the hell do all the machines suddenly shut down ? They have their own power and intelligence. They should just carry on fighting.
5) When Skynet is destroyed in 2017 why do Dyson etc simply give up building it ?

In the second Terminator film, Sarah and John Connor examine Arnie's head and find it's switched to "read only". This may explain the shut down and they are not able to learn or think for themselves without the central Skynet intelligence.

Just got round to watching this last night but theres a fair bit I cant get my head round..

1) why in 2029 when Skynet play their last card do they send a T-800 an old model back.Especially when John Conor is subsequently attacked by a T-5000 when the resistance send Reece back?
2) Why did they send that back anyway when theres already a T-1000 in 1984 waiting for Reece and who the fuck sent him?
3) Why does the T-5000 turn John Connor into a T-3000 when hes a more advanced model?

My head hurts..........

The T-5000 (Skynet) is from an alternative reality, who is travelling the "multiverse" in search of a reality where machines defeat humans. The T-5000 upgrades John Connor a different form in order that he can complete the T-5000's machine.

The T-800 (at the time) was the most advanced model available to Skynet to send back, as Skynet experiments with designs, these are sent further into Sarah/John's future to defeat them, technically they cannot be sent into the same time as the older versions without altering the timeline too much away from the development of Skynet. Since that timeline has already been altered by the alternative Skynet, the risk to further changes are considered unimportant so sent a T-1000 to 1984.

(4) In Terminator 2 it was explained that Skynet does not allow his machines autonomous(?) control and are set to a setting whereby they are linked into Skynet and are controlled by him, in order to have independent control from Skynet, a switch has to be 'flicked' to allow them to operate independently from Skynet.

(5) There is a scene at the end of the film, after the credits, that shows a backup of Skynet having survived in a hardened vault under the collapsed building.

But if the events of the original movie (1984) happened then Cyberdyne have the CPU and thus Skynet goes becomes self aware in 1997. The war happens. If the events of 1984 never happened how did the T1000 know to expect Reese in 1984 ?

It means they can't learn new stuff on their own. They have been programmed with enough stuff to fight and in both T1 and T2 they are smart enough to pass themselves off as human. They have an independent power source. They need Skynet for overall strategy but not to continue fighting.

They didn't, Old Arnie, kills the one sent back to Kill Sarah straight away.

Nicks the microchip for their noddy time machine, so Cyberdine never get the Microchip, which is why Skynet doesn't happen but Genisys does instead.

That's interesting. In the video game "Terminator Dawn Of Fate" Skynet has backup systems in a satellite and the last thing you see is a countdown to it restoring it's database.

forget the science and history as it messes up everything. Apart from the CGI Arnie and Emilia Clarke I thought it was pretty average and a pointless film.

If that's the case then who sent the t-1000 that's waiting for Reece.....
