You should have the option of just having a barcode/QR code type thing on your phone. Let them scan that. It would take some investment admittedly. But if you can get on a plane with that I don't see why it wouldn't work with a train.

Some companies do have those.I know the crosscountry app has tickets on your phone.The op has trouble with paper tickets so god knows how he would manage with e tickets.

I agree with the op, it is stupid the way you get a handful of crap. They all look thesame too.
