Will we be the biggest club in the Championship?

Leeds bigger than us.

The fact we only pull in £3m a season more than Leeds with 15k more through the gate each match day & playing in the Premier League says exactly why we our league position doesn't match out place in the average attendance tables. Big crowds mean fuck all financially if they're paying in premier league terms next to nowt to get in through the door.
This is part of the problem with SAFC. People think, oh we get over 40K the club must be minted but our tickets prices bear comparision to league one clubs, never mind championship.

What crowds do you think Leeds would get if they charged our prices? Prob very similar.

We will be one of the big draws in the Championship.

We are one of the top 50 best supported teams in Europe and in the top 30 in regards to revenues.

I've asked Gillingham, Brentford, Arsenal and West Ham fans at work today and they would all consider us the big draw in the Championship and at least equally compatible to Leeds.

Leeds tried it and got 33,000 vs Brighton and they try for selected other matches and they get crowds nearer 30,000 then. They seem to like the bottom line. It misses the point of football with a half empty stadium most of the time though.

Leeds have very much a second tier feel about them nowadays. I don't think it will last. Always fancied to be amongst the challengers at the start of the season based on their potential for greater things. Forest are always fancied as well because of their past history. Derby are thought of as more middle of the road.

Which is what we will get next season, or less dare I say it.

The PL has grown and grown the past 10 years and Leeds haven't been a part of it. Every season they drift in that League the lower their stock gets.

Support. Profile. History. Just those mind, Leeds have a bigger sense of their own importance I suppose.
In the last 50 year Leeds have spent more time in the top flight and certainly won more including playing in the champions league relatively recently, while we have 3 top ten finishes to our name in that time.
In terms of support probably not much in it if we were both playing at the same level.
You still think Leeds have a bigger sense of their own importance?

Are Leeds bigger than Newcastle?

Both the biggest bigheads of them all. Lower league clubs love Newcastle in the Cup because they are both a big draw and always beatable, at least as far back as I remember. Leeds on the other hand are not liked very much because their fans are a nuisance (some of them) and do not ratchet the tension in a good way, but are more like childish bullies out to spoil the party. Leeds have not got any class. Never have had as far as I remember. There is something about Yorkshire .... ??? Seaside Air.

Having lived there, yes. Their attendances for a one town club of their size are laughable. And their history isn't much to write home about.

I don't base size of crowds on a big club getting big crowds means fuck all it's all about structure history and popularity outside of the clubs region but most of all winning trophies. No one remembers teams who don't win fuck all

Schalke always get huge crowds in Germany but aren't the big club

And anyone that thinks Sunderland are a bigger club than Leeds needs a f***ing reality check. No one outside of SAFC catchment area even thinks they are any bigger than Boro.

Leeds are bigger than your club as well then.

Couldn't give a shite. Let's make sure we look the most determined to go straight back up though.

Wolves?

Who gives a flying fuck?

Why do people always go on about big clubs?

It's a nonsense idea. What is it judged on? Could be anything. At the end of the day no other clubs fans really give a fuck about others and everyone thinks their club is bigger than anyone else does.

It just seems to be something some fans can cling to when their clubs doing shit.

Being successful is surely the only thing that matters.

Well said.

Found this from a random Google search. Now admittedly it is 8 years ago and Leeds have obviously spent those outside the top flight and a few in the third tier, but we have hardly done anything in that period ourselves and have also spent time outside the top flight with 15 point seasons, look on course for another spell, and apart from one season finishing 10th after generous final day results, we have predominantly been a bottom 5 or 6 club in that period. Plus most are basing our size on stuff that happened about 100 years ago anyway, so this gives a good indicator of how neutrals see the debate.

The players have ruined our club in the short term but we have billionaire owner, infastructure in the stadium and academy thats second to none, parachute payments and as much as we whinge at each other a fantastic fan base.

All we have to is get the playing side right. That said the club needs a massive shake up and everyone who is not pulling their weight and all the deadwood needs removing asap. If we do that no reason we cant return to the premier league in a year or two much stronger.
