It's just the shock, i knew Amby was poorly but kept hearing about him from different sources, he was improving, he's having this and that done, with Gary i was told straight away it was serious but 2 months later he's gone, far too young the two of them..:(

I got a right shock the first time I saw Amby in the club with his oxygen backpack and tubes, not so much from that, but how skinny, gaunt, and well.....unwell he looked.

With Bert I had heard he had cancer but I had no idea how serious it was, I just feel totally shocked at yesterdays news.

Ah dinnit think I ever saw him sober during the 80's like !

I remember getting on the coach to go to the FA Cup semi final in 1992, we got picked up in the Blue Bell car park about 8.00am all of my lot were on, all the Bell lads, straight down to some club in Doncaster then on to Hillsborough, Amby was pissed at 8 in the morning on the coach, turns out he'd been in Finos till 2am.

83-88 - Whitburn ;)

Agreed.....it's a compliment and how he will be remembered by a lot of people. How many people have sacked off Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Lilleshall

Seen him play many a time for Whitburn in that time, absolute quality player. Like what has already been mentioned, yes he could have been the best of his time without doubt but he lived life how he wanted to live it. RIP Gary

Scottish paul, Nicky Jimson, Ord, owers and Sean Wharton in this pic too, when is it from 87?

With your username, I was going to ask if you were on that photo but I just googled John Hepple to make sure I'd got his first name right and it turns out he passed away at 37 in 2008

RIP Bertie lad.

Played all my junior football with him and to say we had some interesting games was an understatement. Anyone who was on the trip to France will never forget the running battles and that was just on the footy pitch - we just about needed an armed escort to get out alive.

Could and should have but unfortunately as others have said wasted the talent he had.
My mate was on that trip. He was laughing his head off telling me about it today. He's keen to find out who you are.

Was in the bell with him a few year ago.....next thing I know we're all dressed in Austin powers wigs n glasses.....still haven't got a clue where the come from yit!!!!

The world lost a dry funny man!! Rest in peace my mate!!
