Andros Townsend

Based on his performance on his England debut, which was outstanding. He mesmerised the oppo's defence as I recall, tortured them, and was as good a debut as I've ever seen.
He clearly has more talent in one leg than what we have right now. THAT is what it's based on.

If he fell out of favour, which may not have been his fault, others may have hit top form, or maybe fell foul of the manager, of course he will be rusty, but the fact remains he has real quality, which is what we lack----isn't it----?

Oh aye, against the footballing powerhouse Montenegro FFS. I'd hate for you to be manager if your criteria for signing someone was the fact they have had one good game in their career against a footballing minnow.

My criteria is simple, is he better than what we have, and thats obviously a yes.

Townsend would be a good player if he learned to pass the ball rather than trying to take on a whole team. Amazed he gets in the England team.

Just my opinion like.

Hope we get him, we need someone to fill the Borini role because Wickham is a useless knacker in that position. Looking like Downing or Townsend.

I said weeks ago that I'd love us to be in for him. He was excellent when on loan at QPR a few years ago.

Cant believe some on here man  We'll just stick with Buckley eh lads?

I don't think anybody here is saying he's a great player, he is however a decent premier league player and let's be honest that's a lot better than the current standard of the majority of our squad.

He's two footed, has an absolute engine on him and is extremely direct, he can change the pace of things very quickly and get from his own box to the oppositions in a short space of time, he'd be a great addition to the squad and would most certainly start.

Unfortunately if he's available I think everybody below Tottenham and Liverpool in the premier league will be in for him so doubt this will happen.

Of course he's no world-beater and extremely lucky to be in the England team. But have people just watched what we served up going forward last year? Sure, lets pick over his flaws. But how about we just recognise what he'd bring to our team? He's two-footed, fast and really direct. In other words: everything we've lacked for ages. We haven't had a player able to run the ball at pace since Sessegnon. If he got him AND Downing in the middle, we'd be a completely different proposition...

...Fletcher and Wickham would have at least 6 chances a match to miss, rather than two.

The English James McClean?
