"Pre season results don't matter"

Every shit pre-season is swept away with this line, right until the shit pre-season inevitably gives way to a shit actual season.

We're having a shit pre-season because we can't create chances, can't keep clean sheets and can't score goals. That's because our players are shit and we have - yet again - approached the transfer window like it's a lass at a disco and we're a sweaty virgin.

We've performed triage on a Championship-standard defence and spent real money on Lens. And surprise surprise; we look absolutely shit aside from Lens.

It's the 29th of July. If we want to make to 10 years in the Premier League, we need to stop f***ing about and sign some players who are good enough for the Premier League. Not players who were good enough when Westlife were popular, not good enough in Crete, not good enough when they reach puberty - good enough now.

Here's an idea.

Advocaat seems to know what he wants. How about giving him an iPhone and a chequebook, sending Congerton, Short and all of the other fuckwits out for sandwiches and let an actual football man to sign actual footballers. Tell Advocaat to text Congerton when he's a) finished and b) is ready for his tuna melt.

In 2016 we could finish below Bournemouth. f***ing Bournemouth. Fuck systems. Fuck sporting directors. We need some people who are good at playing football, and we need them now.

Sums up how I'm feeling about things. I'm sick of them playing a game of brinkmanship with premiership survival. Year after year of utter shit has been served up to the fans as a consequence of year after year of mismanagement

Preseason results mean nowt. Fact

They dont but I can see what the lad is saying. It's evident that the exact same problems exist, that our midfield has zero gumption with regards to doing anything in the opposition half.

Watching them doing exactly the same thing - playing in front of the opposition defence, breaking at snail pace and giving the ball away cheaply time-after-time, week-after-week is one of the most frustrating things I've known and renders us the easiest side to defend against. Look at what Villa and Palace did to us last year, it was by no means tactical mastery, it was simply getting the back 4 and defensive midfielders holding a line and remaining close together before breaking with pace and mullering us.

Without an increase in quality in midfield then, as the whole football world knows, we will struggle again.

and, we may see another southampton as well, or worse, the lack of progress has me worried jack.

When you see the same faults and deficiencies that you've seen for years still not addressed then it becomes difficult to brush off embarrassing pre-season friendlies with a casual "ah, it means nowt. It's just a fitness thing, results mean nowt, as long as they get a bit of a workout" etc.

It's definitely not a Sunderland thing, it's f***ing concerning, pre-season or not

Whilst I'm not worried yet mate, I sincerely hope we get the quality in sooner rather than waiting until the end of the window as we have some very winnable games before the end of August, games we can't afford to throw-away. That's why I hate the window and think it should be done by the time the season starts

Agreed, we shouldn't be being turned over this easily pre-season by a side two leagues below us. It saddens me.

The one consolation is the mags were turned over by a team three leagues lower and that should also concern them.

Verdict: At the moment, both sides are playing like relegation fodder.

personally i think the transfer window should be abolished and we should return to how it used to be, and be able to sign a player whenever we need one, it would take a lot of pressure of and would free up a lot of players who sit in the reserves and don't get games week in week out to move to other clubs be that on loan or permanently

I'm happy to wait till the season starts, BUT Dick did say we needed 5 or 6 Quality signings for him to stay. Have we got close to that, no. So either he has lowered his sights and thought fuck it what's one more year, or he's been given false promises.

I honestly think someone nailed it earlier, when he said the Dick being here a year scenario is having an effect. How can Congerton get people to buy in to a long term contract, when Dick will be away in just over 9 months.

Surely players sign for the club rather than the manager?
