New Music Releases Thread

Have you heard the new Tops record yet?

It's out next week, I'm excited.

Only heard the two singles so far. Thought the 'Tender Opposites' was quite patchy but the new one has had some strong reviews already.

Agree, a very impressive live band, very confident and in control from the first song. Most of the people discussed on here lived up to the praise to be honest. I thought East India Youth was absolutely outstanding, in what was my preferred stage, the Walled Garden. Adult Jazz, Lanterns On The Lake and Samantha Crain were also in top form there. Elsewhere Sun Kil Moon, Jonathan Wilson, War On Drugs, First Aid Kit, Sharon Van Etten and Bill Callahan were highlights on the Mountain Stage, with Pictish Trail, Samaris and the good old Waterboys being my favourites in the Far Out Tent.

Just back at work today after also going to Green Man, then up to Scotland for a week with the family and took them to their first ever festival - a little one called Doune the Rabbit Hole. I agree with comment on Ought and EIY @ Green Man - I also enjoyed Fat White Family, War on Drugs, Hockeysmith and Caribou.

Doune was a great little festival with mainly Scottish bands and a good intro for my wife/kids to festival life! Especially liked Errors, Victorian Trout Conspiracy, Jeffrey Lewis, Molly Wagger, No More Tiger, The Birthday Suit and Paws. Recommend it as a easy accessible festival with a good mix of bands in a glorious setting in the Cardross Estate.

I really enjoyed TO, ended up being one of my favourite albums of 2012. Hope this one doesn't flop.

And here's the full KEXP session with Foxygen I was banging on about a few pages back:

Been listening to their debut album over this last week, really good, not sure why I haven't listened to it more in the past.

Few more new "metal" releases

Solstafir - Otta http://open.spotify.com/album/48YUS7Bb70nhn7bLMY7CSC this will be my album of the year totally love this band and how they evolving, this really an album that needs listening in its entirety. Band have expanded their post black metal sound with strings, piano and even a banjo thrown in. Chuck Nephilim, Sigur Ros, Neil young and lots of others into a pot and this is what you get.

Opeth - Pale Communion http://open.spotify.com/album/0DLImjuzdrOBQKtYLlf3C5
If you like 70's prog will likely enjoy.

Wolves in the Throne Room - Celestite http://open.spotify.com/album/3CZ1efJZ8G1hDBETkFuoxw
Bit of a weird one this the US Black metallers drop the guitars completely and record an electronic ambient album recorded totally on vintage synthesizers, looks like they might be going the way of Ulver (another now predominantly electronic band worth checking out) moving into completely weird and wonderful musical styles. Its a companion piece to their previous Celestial Lineage album and the same length exactly so some people saying they should be played at the same time for best effect but all sounds a bit pretentious.
