Renting a flat (first time)

Me and our lass privetley rent a 3 bed house in a good area. We pay £580pm each into a joint and that's ALL bills sorted plus a little savings.

Sky, gas, electricity, broadband, water, council tax.

Oh and pics.

looking at the 3 bedroom one someone posted earlier. If I can rope one of my mates who I know earns a canny bit into house sharing then jobs a good'un. Upping my hours, of course.

Oh and no.

You think £65 per person per week is a rip off

I think that's a bargain

Why do you think that's a rip off?

Because it's £563 per month, for a flat in the North East, depending on where they want to live it should be a lot cheaper than that.

Your figures are all over the place, why would gas and electricity cost £140-£160pm, in a flat? That's more than I pay for a family of five in a house. Council tax should be less than £120 per month too.

That really doesn't seem expensive to me, but I suppose I've had four years of paying an average of £82 a week for just a room.

He's talking about the North East, in most places you can rent a terraced house for about £400pcm. If they're not daft and stick to private rents, they'll probably get away with paying £175 per month in rent. Unless they're wanting to rent somewhere in the city centre or something.

Do you really pay £140-£160 in gas/electricity per month?

I'm aware but the North East isn't immune to rising prices. £65 a week is nowt, especially if he goes full time.

Rents are pretty stagnant in general and have been for a while now as they tend to track wages, or thereabouts. Either way, for a flat, it's a bit on the high side for most of the north east.

I'd be over the moon if I managed to get a good one bedroomed flat up there for £130 like.

Maybe I can raise my expectations if I move back up North. Not that I want to do that, of course ;)

You'd get nowt for £130 per month. You could probably get something for about £400 per month though.

I saw that. That's not a representative example of the rental prices in the North East mind.

It's the 19th cheapest of 817 1-2 bedroomed flats found in the North East (map search as far West as Wolsingham, as far South as Darlington and as far North as Newcastle) under £400pcm

I had no idea it was so cheap like. Staggeringly so. Some of them must be appalling!

Are none of them representative? It's clear you don't need to pay nearly £600 per month for a flat most places in the North East.

Not if it's the 19th cheapest and you're trying to pass it off as a typical example.

It's a tiny one bed studio flat.

Like I say, £65pppw to me is cracking value, I'm very surprised theres anything cheaper of a similar size

They don't look appaling to me, for an 18 year old kid getting his first place with his mates, they look more than decent.

What's wrong with this place (for example):

That one is, but the others aren't. You're wrong, you know nowt about local rents, just admit it. Or just argue the toss even when you're clearly wrong again, up to you.

Nothing, it looks great.

Like I've said (third time now) I'm very surprised that housing is so cheap back in the North East. I'd be over the moon paying those kind of prices and would expect to pay much more.

Aye, okay.

I'm not arguing the toss.

I've said (fourth time now) that I'm surprised at the quality and thought that £65pppw was good value. f***ing hell man you just want an argument this morning?

Did I ever claim to be a f***ing authority on the prices like?

You showed me one that was £55pw for the entire flat and tried to pass it off as if it was typical

What do you want me to say?

Do you want me to admit that I thought rental prices in the North East would be considerably higher than they are? Because I'll admit they're considerably cheaper than that I thought they would be.

I don't drive and I would prefer to stay within reasonable travelling distance to the Barnes area due to work  half 5 starts would be interesting from durham or chester le st

You can post as many as you like, £55 per week for the entire flat is not a typical example.

Obviously, I realise that, but £600 for a two bedroom flat in most places in the North East is pretty high, unless it's a newbuild, or city flat, in which case, if he's earning £800 per month he should think of somewhere else instead of have a pretty shit social life.

You showed me one that was £55pw for the entire flat and tried to pass it off as if it was typical
.

That's not true. I suggested that one for you if you move back, it's no good for most people with friends as it's a tiny studio flat.

Pretty much, but you've seemingly done that now anyway, makes a change for you.

If I move back it looks like I could get somewhere much better than I thought for a lot cheaper than I thought, I'll say that for sure.
