Incredible turn around after we threw shitloads of cash at it after what less than 10% of the season...........

Was it hell...................

Shitloads of cash = less than 5m.
Bruce spent more than that on 1 PLAYER that year for Birmingham, had a 6 point head start on Keane, and finished below us.

Plenty have tried this and it rarely works (in the short term). The fact it did after the season had started makes it all the more remarkable. I'm not sure who (realistically) could've came in and achieved the same thing, even with the same resources.

Look at monstrous size of the QPR squad, and their incredible wage bill assembled by 'Arry. Where are they?

The one I've heard a few times is all the players were ecstatic beating the mags but back in the dressing room he laid into them, explaining where it nearly went wrong. Nae idea if true but sounds like Keane and would put a downer on things.

Yu can't always beat them with a stick, just as Paolo found out.
Sounds right to me, something changed though and it went wrong from there. Shame because I loved Roy being our manager

The fact is Keane was a joke of a Premier League manager. He was then useless at Ipswich

Is this the same Ipswich who, after sacking Keane had a disastrous spell under Jewell and were facing certain relegation until sacking him and appointing a Championship specialist in Mick McCarthy, who despite years in the job there now still has them no better than outside the playoff places?
Don't talk such bollocks. Keane kept Ipswich at same the level they've been at for an eternity now.

He wasn't perfect but he was perfect for us.

So he wasn't at training every day but he was there more than O'Neill. So he wasn't at the beck and call of the chairman.......so fuck. So he was more feared than loved by the players......that's not a bad thing.

Something else that Ellis fucked up

I think he's found his perfect role as a No.2

He got us up through a short term electric shock to the players. Ultimately though his management ability of players was non existent. Players didn't respond to bullying and alienation. Di Canio was the same.

Aye cos 16 players cost nothing in terms of signing on fees and wages didn't they..............and then the season after he signed another 13 and spent £40 million before you even think of the above costs.............

Yes we stayed up but it was spending money Drumaville really didn't have and all our problems since have stemmed from it...........

Keano walked out because short wanted him to do a better job, don't think we can pin this one on short tbf.

so just over £2m per player on average?
and people said he spent big?
those 39 players helped us be promoted as champions and stay up, it also started our longest stay in the top flight for god knows how many years
personally apart from the odd ridiculous buy (such as Ferdinand) he did pretty well with tranfers

as someone else said, they team weren't full of overly talented players, but they played as a team and grinded out results
he won more home games in his first year than we've won league games at all this season
I'd have the bloke back at our club in a heart beat, he was one of my favourite managers and provided me with some of my favourite seasons supporting the lads

He spent a shit load of money of dross. We lost twenty odd games in the first season in the PL and lost 7 in a row before he jumped. A monkey could've done what he did in bringing us up that season.

What utter, biased drivel.
Took over with us in freefall, having being outclassed at Southend and beaten at Bury, then 92nd in the league.

He changed the whole mood and mindset of the club. And even won the league, out-managing Bruce in the process.

We'd kill for a team with the heart his team showed in that first season up.
