I cannot stand Stephen Gerrard but Cattermole isn't half the player is nor ever will be. As offenders off the pitch they are much more equal!!

I can see you like him a lot.
seriously, do you expect anything but abuse? lets hope cattermole manages to not get sent off this coming season

Gerrard's slip will haunt him forever. Probably gets some sympathy cos of that. Catts slip ups will only be remembered by us lot, and then only faintly given how well he performed in the last dozen games.
never ceases to amaze me this board. cattermole will never be classed in gerrards class. cattermole is a player who if he can learn to show control, can be better still but will never play for england or in a top six team
thats what i thought but appears some would like to compare the two. laughable
Jesus f***ing wept man this board.
I like Catts as much as the next man, don't get me wrong. But to suggest he's better than Gerrard is plain f***ing stupid. This board at times man!
been saying for over two years now, his legs have gone and he is not the player he once was..Your absolutely right that he didn't get slagged off the way Catts did for those glaring errors toward the end of last season... the reason being Catts is not the love child of the media the way Gerrard has been portrayed for nearly all of his career...and those defence splitting Diagonal ball he play( Steve G, admit it you do play the long ball game, kick and hope) well yer knar
Gerrard's performance in the 2nd half that day was one of the most selfish you'll ever see, constantly shooting from stupid distances in an attempt to make up for the slip.
He's Stevie G, of The dippers and Engurlund.................... Xavi Alonso he ins't
Is he?
It's an absolute bizarre choice of person to have a grudge against given his effort on the pitch.
He has made the odd mistake but it's usually cos he never hides and always wants to be involved.
If we had another 10 players with his heart alone we'd be a top 10 side
I think the problem is highlighted in the extremes by Cattermole and Colback. The former involved himself in everything but inevitably made mistakes whilst the latter did the opposite. Perhaps what we really need is a safer holding player with a greater probability of not making as many mistakes by not taking as many risks as Cattermole normally does.As Poyet said after the Hull cup debacle, he'd rather have a player who wants to be involved in everything, even if they make the odd mistake, like Cattermole, than someone who coasts through games not wanting to take any risks, thus guaranteeing that they don't make any mistakes.
Cattermole's slip will be forgotten by Sunderland fans within 6 months.
I'll put a tenner on that Cattermole will play in a top 6 side before the end of his career.
In a holding midfield role, he is better than Gerrard.
Anybody with half a brain could see that at after South Africa 2010, Gerrard was half the player he was. His famous 50 yard long balls are now wasteful.
He's always been a selfish player, just never been highlighted until this.summer.
Xabi Alonso is twice the player Gerrard will ever be.
Why do people hate Steven Gerrard?
He's a home town lad living the dream and was the best English player in the Prem for a number of seasons.
He also led his team to the most unlikely of European Cup wins in the history of the tournament.
The bloke is legend as far as I'm concerned, now let him finish his career with some of the dignity he deserves
So last season he wasn't a good holding midfielder for Liverpool because he made that mistake?http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ave-any-faith-in-lady-luck-making-amends.html
Why do people keep saying he was unlucky to slip against chelsea. He mis controlled a pass across the back four - in exactly the same way as Catts against Villa. He subsequently slipped when trying to retrieve the situation.
I did not see any member of the press saying catts was unlucky - they said quite correctly ha made and error/mistake.
Surely Liverpools leaking of goals last season and Englands problems at the world cup can in part be directly attributed to the fact that 'Stevie G' (how wanky is it when commentators call him that) will NEVER be a holding midfielder as long as he has a hole in his arse.
Gerrard in his pomp was a fantastic attacking midfielder - but a straight choice between SG and Catts for a holding midfielder to sit in front of the back four next season - Catts all day long
Absolute f***ing bollocksGerrard can't defend anywhere near the level that he used to be able to, nor is he fit to lace Catts boots if they are compared like for like in that defensive role, if Catts sorts his aggression and concentration out he'd easily be able to step up another few levels, while he might not be the most technical player or even as technical as Gerrard can be, Catts is still the better holding midfielder and even the better box to box man.
While Catts could easily step up or down a level Gerrard could never step down to a club like us and still play as well as he did last season even.
I despairLiverpool conceded 50 goals last season, probably would have been less with Cattermole or any other DM protecting the back 4 rather than the hopeless Gerrard
I despair
