Labour plan £8 a hour minimum wage

Most workers on Min Wage £6.50 p/hour or whatever they get are on benefits.

So my guess is if they get a increase to £8/Hour they will then lose working tax credits and their rents will increase.

They will be no better off.

Point is - If you are working you should not have to depend on Benefits - Then you would not be berated by middle class tossers on here and labeled as a scratter.

If you are running a business and you can not afford to pay someone enough for them to live on then move your business to a country that can.

Profit Profit Profit :(

For people with young kids, minimum wage would have to be doubled for them not to have to rely on benefits.

I was expecting some white text after that bit ....alot of businesses in Britain have less than 3 to 5 staff and are usually no better than a man and a van set up. The owner has took a risk and is employing people to work in his business and in most cases is doing okay but hardly making a fortune. Those staff altho on minimum wage are earning and contributing to society in some small way and are not stuck at home rotting away.
You want that business to relocate abroad so that the staff are now a bigger drain on the welfare state ? Times that by many more thousands and you now have millions more claiming ?

What you're conveniently ignoring though is that there are many salaried professionals earning 35K a year who work more than 40 hours and dont get overtime. I know of many cases (Im not one of them) were colleagues are working 50 hours for £42-43K. That works out at £16.53. Not a massive difference for the £10 for a supermarket operative that some people would like to see.

I am conveniently ignoring fuck all. I really dont know what you are getting at with that post. Has anyone on this thread mentioned £10 a hour for supermarket workers? All myself and others are asking for is that those on the minimum wage get a inflation rise or thereabouts so they end up on £8 a hour by 2020. Do you honestly think that is to much to ask? The people you mention who are on 35k a year will be getting a rise no doubt by 2020. Surely in 6 years time these people who will be on closer to 40k then wont be jealous of those at the bottom getting £8 a hour. Would it really bother someone on 40k plus that someone at the bottom would have the wage bumped up to 16-17k? The mind f***ing boggles sometimes

Some right jealous bastards out there who for some reason think those at the bottom of the ladder are thick sum and should be kept on a lower wage as possible as it makes them feel ever more superior

Those at the bottom wrung of the wage ladder may not be the best academically, they may be quite happy doing jobs that dont require that much skill as they have other commitments like family to worry about. All they may want to do is go to work and earn a few extra quid for the family. Just cos this is the case it doesnt mean they should be treat like shit and kept on the lowest wage possible

The ironic thing is, its those at the lower end that do jobs you notice first when they aren't done. They are also jobs a lot of folk wouldn't like to do. In a fair society everyones job should be valued.

Spot on mate, on these thread always a element snobbery comes out. 'Ah fuck them, jobs where you dont have to think much. Balls to them, they dont deserve a decent wage'

short term or long term?

It may be that you are "no better off" financially in the short term, but that 16 hour part time job could be the stepping stone to a big earning career some ways down the path in the future, when the lad's all grown up.

A journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step.
lets hope so chick, I'm a smart cookie - I've just started at the bottom of the ladder but hopefully one day I'll climb the bugger with gusto ;)

I shudder to think what the cost of living will be by then I very much doubt £8 an hour will be much different than minimum wage now
