Joining a Union - worth it?

If the unions told the wasters to go and fist themselves, they might garner more respect.

Instead they waste every bodies time, and money, defending gloamers and douchebags.

I'm just happy for all the little children in those poverty stricken pit villages he's saved, God bless him.
That's nice of you Teed pal, maybe when you make a success of your next business you too can help the poor people and feel arrogant and smug like I do:)

Myself, I thought he made some excellent points on this thread no matter what the majority say,but of course that did not stop the gang picking up on one mistake and going to town
What a top fella but be careful fraternising with the bosses might see you thrown out of the inner circle pal ;)

Have you always been blessed with lightning reflexes

There won't be a next business pal, it's not my cup of tea, I didn't feel comfortable earning from another man's sweat, besides! I'm almost finished with my working life..;)
But please, carry on the good work, it means so much to all those poor folk in the run down areas of the north east and the fact that you live there right amongst them in their council estate, without anything to show for your endeavour, just proves what a philanthropic angel you are, they must think the world of you,,,,I can feel a little lump in my throat here..:(

Feel like givin my tuppence on Unions here ...shower of bearded commies who want the standard set at the LOWEST point .
Shielding pencil lickers and time servers and have no time for the cove who wants to do sommat extra and improve him/herself.

Oficials are usually dicks with a big mouth and no brains ..with the female version in the main been fat dykes in need of a good drilling .

Other than that I suppose they are OK .

I'm pleased that I have had a positive effect on you mate. If you ever need a bit of work ( above mw ofcourse ) feel free to drop me a pm. You do live up here with your fellow comrades I take it ?

I was having some difficulties at work last year. Joined Unite at the start of this year, put an end to a lot of shit and wrong doing. Definitely worth joining, especially if you're having any issues with your job.

Find this very hard to believe.

What that the GMB didnt turn up to defend his case?
Personally I dont find it hard to believe at all.
GMB dropped the ball in many ways in my case, they didnt get the tribunal papers in on time for starters, meaning losing the right to a tribunal.
At a hearing to see if I could actually get an extension and have the tribunal, their hired lawyer turned up, but the regional manager who according to the lawyer "holds her hands up and admits all blame" etc, didnt bother to actually turn up to say this rather important fact, and the lawyer didnt bother to mention it either.
The end result, lost chance of tribunal and GMB lawyers told me to sue the GMB.
I gave up, lost the will to live by then.

Plus, in all the years since then, they have not even bothered to see if they could help me, which I would have thought they would do, seeing as they admit to screwing up big time.
Nope, they dont seem to give a damn, and were about as much use as a chocolate fireguard when needed the most.
In fact, they added much more stress at a time when it was needed the least.

The organisation I work for is making a lot of cuts and there are redundancies and all sorts on the horizon - I'm pretty safe (as safe as I can be anyway) for two years due to being on a funded programme, but it's got me thinking, is it worth joining a union? If so, what one? Is anyone on here already a member and has it helped in any circumstances that have come up with employment?

I've been looking at Unison's website and for £1.30 a month or whatever it seems pretty logical to make sure I'm part of one, but can they really make any difference if things were to take a change for the worse and you needed support against an employer?
definitely. Always worth it for the amount of legal and other support and advice etc they offer through the Union anyway.

I was in one when i was at viasystems in shields, complete waste of time. Did absolutely nothing they said they would do and made no difference when any big decision s were made.. were more than happy to take the money though..
Never been in one since, total waste of time

No big man needed, just common sense and a general knowledge of right and wrong.
Completely uninformed imho

Most of the laws on employment were brought in thanks to unions

That is exactly why unions thrive pal, they prey on the weak and vulnerable who then like sheep pay their subs.
Some folk live in the past and a few on here certainly need to move with the times.
Did you add another account Mackem Chris?

I'm sorry mate, I didn't realise you were such a saint!! to think I ever doubted you, I take my cap off, there you are in your council house with nothing to show for the hardship you've endured, only the thought of employing the poor to keep you and your's warm at night, please except my sincere apologies, you can pass those on to tiny Tom too, hope his legs get better, I'm off to self flagellate now to atone for my doubting mind.
The majority are on more than minimum wage aswell!

A modern day saint, guvnor!
