Sunderland A&E

Spent 2 good chunks of time in a&e earlier this year & was disappointed by the lack of head the balls in as it would have helped pass the time...
Was in Sunderland Royal with my wife when she was poorly just before Covid. We were out of the main A&E waiting room, and in the assessment bit with the cubicles surrounding a desk. Old-ish fella was in the cubicle next to us, was chuntering on inaudibly and then suddenly bellowed out "I AM NOT A PERVERT!"

At which point me and my wife looked at each other and both nodded, yes, definitely a pervert. Perked her right up.

Last time I was there the police dragged a bloke in cuffs in, bleeding everywhere. Giving out cries of how much the cuffs were hurting.

Another bloke came in with his mother. He didn’t look great at all and was in and out of sleep constantly. She told him she had to be somewhere and left. He went to the bog and 45 mins later still wasn’t back. I told the lass at reception and she said “it’s ok he’s with his mum”. Should have seen her face when I said she’d left  Utter disbelief “SHES LEFT HIM??”.

I was in to get my ticker checked out, I will have looked like there was absolutely nowt wrong with me.

Was better entertainment than the TV, well apart from people being bad.

Privatise A&E. Canny.
Plenty Tories outing themselves on this thread
Interestingly some psychological studies have shown that people are more likely to miss appointments if they have to pay for them. As they have the mentality that they've paid for it, so it doesn't matter (vs. the moral implication of wasting someone's time). The Health Foundation has also done some economic modelling that shows that a £5 charge would actually cost the NHS more money to administrate than it would collect. Then you have the moral implications of if you offer exemptions (i.e. low-income people, children, pensioners etc.). and if not, you will potentially have people who decide to skip going to A&E because of the cost (oh I'll get better myself as £5 isn't something I can afford this week etc.) and in the long run that costs the country far more money, as people don't get treated and have life-changing injuries/ illnesses and end up off work, on disability benefits etc. etc.

Also at the moment, the number of GP's dropping massively in this country so people are being pushed to A&E because they can't see a GP. A charge doesn't really reverse that. If you feel ill, you feel ill.

Finally, you just have the moral argument that the NHS was founded to be free at the point of use. We all pay our taxes for it, especially older people who have been putting in their whole life. You change that, even a little bit, and it's a slippery slope and kind of against what we stand for as a country.

So yeah, obviously entitled to your option. But I think personally it seems a really appealing idea, but in reality, it wouldn't actually work very well.

Best post on this thread marra

Been twice this year , once when I slipped a disc in my back (still bad now) and when someone chewed a bit of my 👂 off .
Never go if it was nout serious most depressing thing ever waiting in them places for 8 hours etc

Should have a nurse and security on the main door asking the reason for attendance. If they don't pass the criteria for A&E attendance they should not be admitted ,signposted to other agencies Or just told to do one .

I had the misfortune to go to A&E a few weeks ago.

There wasn't many people in, and after about 20 mins I got called in to get my blood taken. The nurse said that the results would be back in around 45 mins.

Almost 4 hours later I got called in, only to be told that the tests were fine and nothing further needed to be done (could they not have told me that 3 hours previously??). Anyway, the young doctor then said that he just needed to speak with his superior and then I could go.

30 mins later and still no sign of the fúcker. So I'm sticking my head out the room to get someone's attention and after the 4th go another young doctor came in and told me that the previous doctor had finished his shift and and gone home (cheers mate), he then repeated what the first guy had told me (apart from needing to speak to his superior) and then said I could go 🤪

A and E is NHS ran and 111 Urgent Care is actually a company called Vocare.

I only realised this after receiving some pretty shitty treatment regarding a missed broken ankle that ended up with surgery.

Aye same here it’s horrific and I avoid it unless absolutely necessary.

I actually did two shifts at work and tried to soldier on after breaking my ankle as it was a bank holiday weekend so knew how bad it would be.

I’ll be forever grateful for the Tory party keeping a roof over everyone’s head during Covid.

I’ll never forgive the war criminals like Blair and brown .
They should be before The Hague.
Your first point, with socialist policies

Your second point, the vote to go to war in Iraq was won with Conservative votes.
