A derby to be proud of

Newcastle was a war zone after the Di Canio game and the walk from central to the match was littered by smoke bombs being traded between the two sets and firecrackers going off every 30 seconds. Whilst it's hardly life or death, I can't imagine NP want that sort of shite to continue.

I was at that game and got the train/escort there and back

After the game the only bother was mags smashing up the town. Not between rival fans. That's an entirely different issue. Before the game you have a point with stuff getting chucked but the situation was always under control.

As posted earlier, that list was the police's and fans in attendance did tell them it wasn't going to happen. In its own way, that shows the liaison principle working - something was proposed by police and fans explained why it wouldn't work.
who on earth at the police would propose something like that? who are you dealing with...children?

that's true enough but NP seem unwilling to place the blame at the feet of the mags. They seemingly expect blame to be shared hence the bubble plans last season as if taking us out the equation would stop the mags from destroying their own city if they lost. With that in mind, they'll obviously feel as if what they're doing currently clearly isn't enough.

Maybe the solution is to stop us winning

There was no trouble after the 5-1 at SJP or the 1-4 at the SOL

Maybe the actual problem is mags are just wankers #shockhorror

The mags have a higher proportion of pissed up scratters that can't cope when their beloved club loses in the Derby.

The problem lies firmly with them.

Juvenile. This sounds like a group of people pretending to know what they are talking about. Who are these people and who gave them any sort of mandate?

Police's list.

I wasn't at the meeting in question but I'd imagine it's basically the same group of fans (SAFC & NUFC) who helped get the bubble overturned, which was a massive result.

The general theme after that was to build relations so that a bubble could never be tried again.

Nice sentiment. Won't work.

I agree, although fwiw it would be nice if things could calm down a bit. Passion is what makes the game great, but some of the hatred is mental.

Isn't there more police on duty for our derby than any other one (inc the old firm) in the UK?

Im sure ive heard that theres actually a few have more police presence.

Does it even need it? Wheres all the trouble?

As a few have said, its usually after the game....a home defeat

Aye, they love a bit of overtime at NP, especially on a Sunday ;)

As for this meeting, it's a good idea but the people attending it won't be the ones who cause the trouble.

From experience, the problem often isn't with the fans that go to the game - it's with the ones that go on the pop all day.

For the last few games at SJP, me and a few others lads have met up with mag mates and had a few pints around Newcastle. There's been no trouble, but you could see the morons, who weren't going to the match, getting tanked up.

After the last 3-0, the wankers who were already pissed when we left the pub at 11.30, were on a full witch hunt for mackems.

I know this will appear biased, but Newcastle has a much bigger problem with these 'fans' then Sunderland.

I wonder how many people moaning about this were moaning about the bubble last year. I know there's at least one person off the top of my head.

The bubble was overturned because supporters from both sides came together to raise the point of contention with the police and the two football clubs. It wasn't because people withdrew their ticket apicarions or whatever. It was still oversubscribed.

All this is is a continuation of that relationship in order to prove the point that most football supporters are just normal folk who get on day to day, and shouldn't be treated differently purely because they attend a football match. It is a derby to be proud of.

I don't think anyone wants to sanitise the game or the build up. That's what makes the game special, and that won't change.

As has been stated, that sheet came from the police and the majority of the points were dismissed. So why continue to twist about it?

Woah nelly, that was the bullshit the 1992ers came out with after the horse punching incident and ensuing destruction

"Nen of thurz corzin botha had gon ta tha match, thar wor url lercal charvas"

Then IIRC the plod announced that the majority of those arrested HAD been to the match in the home end, including the horse puncher himself.

I presume that first sentence is a dig at me. How can you possibly read that list and claim the police don't want to sanitise the derby? We're twisting because if that list represents the Police's thinking (and it obviously does) then we're fighting a losing battle. There's a difference between coming together to battle against ridiculous draconian measures implemented and coming together to applaud each other down the road FFS.
