Parson type Russells are a cracking working terrier. Mine are really good with people but so don't like cats, rats etc. Hard as nails but soft as shite with people.

Bàstards with small bairns in my experience with them over the years.wouldnt have one for nowt.

proud of the fact they are the yappiest dogs about and keen to show it- loyal, loving and will defend their owner to the last. My mam had a smasher - when you werent looking he would drink coffee out of your cup and when my uncle said it was ridiculous he looked up and give him the growl...

aye but they need firmness from what i can remember of the buggers.Wilful little shites but a good one is fantastic as you rightly said.Although me granda and ganny should be in the people who overfeed their pets thread for the way they fed their jack russell
I trained mine well so it stopped next to me like a shadow when I was walking streets with her, when I stopped she stopped and so I never needed to use her lead unless I was tying her up at a shop. I also trained not to be yappy. I want another one when my present dog eventually goes to dog Heaven.:)

Mine from home had to be put down a few weeks ago at the age of 17

She was a class dog

Lovely natured

We have 2 Jacks (amongst other animals!) --- They are truly great little dogs

..but as for the OP.... Its always a bit unpredictable with dogs and young children. Depends on the dog and its history....our girl Jack loves everyone (and all our cats!) whereas the boy Jack can be a bit grumpy with the cats ..but both are good with children

can be great dogs can be little shits all depends on how they are trained and how well they are socialised same as any dog really.

Jack Russell's are not a kennel club registered breed so don't be fool by dodgy papers.

My sister has had 2 over the years and they were both lovely dogs, really intelligent and well behaved. I remember though when my Nephew was born, the dog sat facing the wall for about a week after he came home from the Hospital and she used to leave the room when he cried. Never touched him though, even when he was older and pulled her ears.

Fantastic dogs - I have 2 , I'd never consider another breed now - loyal, faithful, loving, tenacious and always good with bairns in my experience
