BBC have a interesting article about why we are being asked to pay this.
According to them, Cameron and co reported that the country was doing good, I seem to recall the coalition made a big deal out of how the economy has improved.
Well, now that they are being asked to shell out (due to that) they are suddenly saying that its not really doing well, its just that they have changed acountancy methods.
One such change is including illegal activities, such as the money made from prostition in the economy figures.

So camerons recovery sounds more like a con that is based on guesses about how much money prostitutes make (and I would imagine other illegal activities such as drug dealing etc) rather than anything they have done.
Now that the accountancy trick has backfired, people might see them for what they are - liars who do not uphold agreemments or follow the law when it is not in their favour.

f***ing Hell. Cracking. :lol::lol:

this is a Europe-wide policy though.

dont be so silly

the EU are rewarding failure - failure of the EU economies to actually implement measures of austerity like wot we have dun - or havent you Champagne Socialists noticed!!! well I for one have! and I think the struggle has been worth it however Im fucked if the frogs and krauts are getting any more of my hard earned cashola whilst they sat on their fat arses eating garlic and smoking gauloise and drinking gallons of cheap red wine!

So when we get a rebate from them you would turn it down?
I wouldn't turn down a rebate of money we paid in the first place. I don't want to take money from others who have earned it honestly for themselves though. And all of this money only arrives at its destination having been filtered through the sticky fingers of the EU bureaucrats.

Austerity. Why are we still talking about this bullshit? One economic research paper with a f***ing typo in the excel formula is all we have to say its even worth thinking about, and the small government idiots in the Tory party are still chasing this non-existent nirvana. And now it turns out they were fiddling the books to make the improvements look better? Brilliant. Fire the f***ing lot.

There wouldn't be tariffs both ways if the EU decided to go down that route? We import more than we export. Their economies are in the shit, can they take the hit? Would Mr BMW not be straight on the blower to Merkel going potty that one of their largest markets has shrunk? We'd also be able to then negotiate agreements with the rest of the world. Car sales from Britain for example are growing to the rest of the world but declining to Europe already.
I'm confused. Why would we put tariffs on imports from the EU? To cost ourselves more? We have way more to lose by the loss of GB-EU free trade than the EU does, shirley. Imagine if Florida decided to secede from the USA and become its competitor. Who do you reckon would win?

I think you think we're more important than we are mate. Especially given that we're not even a Euro member let alone lynchpin.

Seems fair enough. Can't complain when we've benefitted the other way. Surely David isn't pretending that he didn't know that this could/would happen?

Complete and utter tosh. So if we leave the EU, Nissan will close their most productive European manufacturing plant and move it to a country who's currency is a complete basket case ?

I'm now waiting for the EU lovers to tell me that if we leave, Europe will charge us a trading tariff. Completely ignoring that fact that we trade at a deficit with them.
So fast you wouldn't be able to blink.

It should be paid up and people should stop whinging. I'm looking forward to Cameron playing the outraged strong leader role with all his bluster for the domestic media and audience just before Europe tell him shut the fuck up, pay up and stop moaning before he slinks away saying "i told them", after of course paying what is rightly due.
The outrage from the anti EU'ers on here is funny to watch as they stomp and jerk their knees about having to actually honour the agreements Britain has. This outrage wasn't very evident when Britain PLC was banking their EU rebates.

Whilst I disagree with the principle that the payment is based on, once we have signed up to it, I agree we should pay it, if anything it makes the govt look incompetent that they didnt see it coming.

Well, the Government's either bullshitting the people or bullshitting the EU. I know which one my money's on.;)

You can't have it both ways. If they're going to hurt our business by putting tariffs on our exports to the EU then surely we will hurt them more by putting tariffs on their imports to Britain. They import more to us and thus will be hurt more - by your own definitions.
